Mobile Phones

Do you have a mobile phone that you really like and a service that you don’t? One way around that problem is to change SIM cards to allow you to keep your old phone and make it compatible with a new service company. Or quite the opposite, you may like your service carrier and detest your phone. Again, SIM card to the rescue. Choose a phone you like from those compatible with your service. Simply remove the SIM card from your old phone and slip it in your new phone. It’s as simple as that, you are ready to use the phone.

Most people have no idea what a SIM card is so perhaps it would be best to explain a bit about them. SIM is the acronym for Subscriber Identity Module. It is a portable memory chip utilized by numerous mobile phone models. Think of it as a mini hard drive that contains all your subscriber identity information. SIM card technology makes it very easy to change all your information from one phone to another by simply removing the SIM card from one phone and slipping it into another.

If you are keeping your old phone and choosing a new service, take the SIM out of your old phone and replace it with the SIM card your new carrier will provide for you. You will be required to activate the SIM card by contacting your new service provider to unlock your phone and make it ready to use.

SIM card technology offers many distinct advantages. If you are upgrading to a new phone, the SIM card from your old phone holds your mobile phone number, text messages, phone book and other information and therefore transfers all this information to the new phone so you won’t have to re-enter numbers or lose any information in the upgrade.

SIM card based mobile phones can be very advantageous in many situations. If your phone battery goes dead and you urgently need to place a call, you can place your SIM card in any other SIM card based mobile phone and make your call. The minutes will be charged to your phone, not the phone you inserted your card into.

SIM cards make it feasible to keep numerous phones in different places; for instance, keep one phone in your purse, one in your car, one at the office and one at home. All you need to do to make any of the phones active is to slide your SIM card in; one SIM card for many phones is a great idea.

For international travelers, SIM card technology provides a huge benefit. If an American travels to the UK with their mobile phone from the US, every call they make will be charged at roaming rates that will add up very quickly. With a SIM card based phone, the American traveler would simply travel to the UK and buy a SIM card upon arrival and it would be valid for a certain amount of minutes. This would allow you to avoid the roaming charges the US service would have charged. You can get a SIM card for less than £15 for a one month contract term that allows 300 minutes and 600 texts. What a steal when you compare that to roaming charges that you could rack up in a month’s time.
